RUBEDO

Rubedo - Featuring a Bubinga top, Black Walnut legs, Oak apron, and Copper leaf inlay. She measures 3’x5’ and was inspired by Japanese architecture and American craftsmanship. The word ‘Rubedo’ means ‘Red’ in latin and is used in alchemy to signify its final stage - the Red Stage. This Alchemical achievement is when matter comes back to life, which is something Woodworking is all about, giving trees a second life. The Rubedo stage is also when opposites unite and signifies that the Great Work is complete, the achievement of the Philosopher’s Stone. Alchemy and woodworking go hand in hand. Turning conscious thoughts into physical objects is at the root of both. Rubedo is a celebration of this dance between inside and outside worlds - the mental and material realms. Her inlay design is a depiction of this unity and a reminder of the power we have to play between the two.
