RUBEDO
Rubedo - Featuring a Bubinga top, Black Walnut legs, Oak apron, and Copper leaf inlay. She measures 3’x5’ and bears a shape inspired by Japanese architecture and American craftsmanship. The word ‘Rubedo’ means ‘Red’ in latin and is used in alchemy to signify its final stage - the Red Stage. This Alchemical achievement happens when matter is brought back to life, which is something Woodworking is all about - giving trees a second life. The Rubedo stage is also attained when opposites are united and signifies the Great Work is complete… achieving the Philosopher’s Stone. Alchemy and woodworking go hand in hand. Turning conscious thoughts into physical objects is at the root of both. Rubedo is a celebration of this dance between inside and outside worlds - the mental and material realms. Her inlay design is a depiction of this dual unity and a reminder of the power we have to play between the two.
